Beethoven, Ludwig van (1770-1827)


Mödling, Achsenaugasse 6. - Beethoven spent the summer of 1820 in the "Christhof" in a garden apartment. The house was owned by the Augustinian Order from the 16th to the 18th century; in Beethoven's time it belonged to the winegrower Anton Speer. The musical quotation is taken from the Missa solemnis (op. 123), on which the composer worked from 1819 to 1823 - among other places in Mödling.

Hand-colored etching by Herta Czoernig-Gobanz (1886-1970), estate signed. Plate size 19 x 20 cm (7½ x 7¾ in), sheet size 35 x 29 cm (13¾ x 11½ in).
